The Michigan Farm Bureau warned the cuts would cause the Agriculture Department to slash 20 to 25 jobs and endanger several programs, including inspection services for migrant labor housing and grain dealer security.
"Since the department's high point in 2000, the budget has been cut by more than 50 percent," said Tonia Ritter, the government affairs manager for the Michigan Farm Bureau.
"What we're down to is cutting programs that are mandatory, such as fruit and vegetable inspections.
